Forms and Precedents: What are they and why do I need them?
Precedents are templates of common legal documents. These include legal agreements, court pleadings, court forms, etc., and can save you time from having to create a document from scratch. The library has hundreds of precedents that will fit almost every need. Even if you can’t find just the right document, you can combine two or even three precedents together into one document. If you have trouble finding any of the precedents in the collection, don’t hesitate to ask to ask for help. e-discovery and e-trial model documents can be located on the OBA website.
The Law Society of Upper Canada Access CLE Database contains many forms and precedents. Articles and precedents older than 18 months can be downloaded free of charge.
Access to O'Brien's is available in the library through the database or in print format. Documents from the database can be downloaded in Word format on to a flash drive for easy editing. The encyclopedia also includes commentary and handy checklists.
